Jonathan Elliotson, Trumpet

Jonathan Elliotson is an award-winning trumpet soloist and prominent orchestral musician. He is grateful to have had a fruitful career spanning almost two decades and to have held esteemed positions such as La Musique du Royal 22e Regiment of the Canadian Armed Forces and Principal Trumpet of the Kingston Symphony Orchestra.

Jonathan’s passion is in orchestral music. His love of the orchestra has brought him performances both nationally and internationally with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Canadian Opera Company, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. He has been lead under the baton of legendary maestro’s Krzysztof Urbanski, Stéphane Denève, and Bramwell Tovey.

Jonathan has taught music for over ten years. He began teaching privately in 2011, going on to become an instructor for the Canadian Armed Forces Music Division from 2015-2021. As an educator, he believes first and foremost that students should be shown the joy that making music can bring. From this ignition point, Jonathan believes in following the interest of the student, tailoring his teaching to the student’s learning style.

Music education for Jonathan began at age of three studying with his father, also a great trumpet player and educator, where making music together was the foundation of his learning.  He moved to Toronto, Ontario to pursue post-secondary education where he studied with Anita McAlister at the University of Toronto, followed by Andrew McCandless at the Glenn Gould School.  In 2017, Jonathan won his first professional position as the Principal Trumpet of the Kingston Symphony Orchestra.
